Shri Mohammed Y Safirulla K IAS (Kerala 2010) has been appointed as Director in the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years.
Known for his exceptional academic record and forward-looking administrative approach, Shri Safirulla brings with him a wealth of experience in governance, technology-driven reforms, and public service delivery.
An academic achiever, he holds a B.E. in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Bharathiar University (First with Distinction), an MBA in Finance from T.A. Pai Management Institute (First), and an M.S. in Public Policy & Management from Carnegie Mellon University with a specialisation in Digital Transformation and Analytics (Outstanding). He also holds a Machine Learning Specialization Certificate from Stanford University and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School (First), making him one of the most globally qualified officers in his cadre.
Since joining the IAS in 2010, Shri Safirulla has held diverse leadership roles, blending field administration with policy innovation. He served as District Collector & Magistrate, Ernakulam, where his tenure was marked by efficient disaster management, infrastructure development, and civic engagement. His assignments as Project Director of eHealth Kerala and Director of Kerala State IT Mission showcased his ability to integrate cutting-edge technology into healthcare and governance systems.
In the finance domain, his work as Special Commissioner and Additional Commissioner in the Kerala GST Department and OSD in Finance (Resources) strengthened fiscal management and revenue systems. He has also played a central role in urban mobility as Managing Director of the Vyttila Mobility Hub Society, as well as in public health research as Special Officer for the Cochin Cancer Research Centre.
His tenure in Local Self Government, Rebuild Kerala Initiative, and Kerala Solid Waste Management Project reflects a commitment to sustainable development and community resilience. With extensive exposure to both domestic governance and international best practices—enhanced through advanced studies and global collaborations—Shri Safirulla brings a rare combination of local insight and global perspective.
As Director in MeitY, he is expected to spearhead initiatives in digital governance, emerging technologies, and e-governance reforms, furthering India’s vision of a digitally empowered society.
