Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, is currently undertaking a five-day official visit to India from May 23 to May 27. One of the key events during his visit is his participation in the Passing Out Parade of the Spring Term 23 at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala.

During his visit, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera held discussions with Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief of the Naval Staff, on May 24 in New Delhi. The discussions focused on collaborative mechanisms aimed at ensuring peace and security in the region. As a mark of respect, he received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns. Earlier in the day, he paid tribute to the brave soldiers at the National War Memorial.

India and Sri Lanka have a long-standing and significant relationship, and both countries have been actively strengthening their ties. They have increased their cooperation in the maritime domain, aligning with India’s “Neighbourhood First Policy” and the concept of “Security and Growth for All in the Region.”

The Indian Navy and the Sri Lanka Navy engage in various initiatives to foster cooperation, including bilateral naval exercise SLINEX, hydrography, training programs, and other maritime activities. Furthermore, naval vessels from both countries regularly make port calls at each other’s ports.

The visit by Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera symbolizes the growing naval cooperation between India and Sri Lanka. It reaffirms the commitment of these two friendly maritime neighbors to enhance security and address the maritime challenges in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
