The Military Nursing Service (MNS) marked its 98th Raising Day on October 1, 2023. This distinguished all-women service in the Armed Forces boasts over 5,000 officers deployed in various Armed Forces hospitals. In honor of this milestone, serving and retired officers, led by Addl DGMNS Maj Gen I Delos Flora, paid their respects at the National War Memorial on September 30, 2023. A celebratory cake-cutting ceremony, led by MNS officers from Delhi Garrison, took place at AH(R&R).

Furthermore, a social gathering was arranged by Addl DGMNS on behalf of the entire MNS community stationed at Delhi Garrison, hosted at MNS officers mess, AH(R&R), New Delhi. The event was graced by over 300 guests, including senior dignitaries from the tri-services and esteemed veteran MNS officers.

The origin of MNS traces back to the pre-independence colonial era, with British and Indian soldiers serving in the British Army. In 1888, the British Indian government established the Indian Army Nursing Services (IANS), marking the formal commencement of Military Nursing in India. The officers of IANS played a pivotal role in providing medical care to wounded soldiers during both World War I and II. On October 1, 1926, the Permanent Nursing Service was instituted in the Indian Army, officially designated as the Indian Military Nursing Service. Post-Independence, the MNS became an integral part of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), earning acclaim for its unwavering dedication and exceptional service.
