The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh has said that a mass movement is required to clean all the rivers. Addressing a rally on the “Clean Yamuna” campaign (“Yamuna Swachchta Abhiyan”) , said that the mass movement should be undertaken for the Yamuna on the same lines as it has been done to clean Ganga and some other rivers. For this purpose, the children and youth are the most suitable medium, he said, because they can motivate their parents and elders in the family.

Complementing the local Member of Parliament representing North-East Delhi, Shri Manoj Tiwari for having initiated this campaign, Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is a very visionary idea because this will also serve as a mass contact programme for the organization. He also appreciated Shri Manoj Tiwari for having associated the “Clean Yamuna” campaign with a Cricket Tournament for the youth and hoped that this initiative will also serve the additional purpose of discovering several hidden talents and skills among the youth.

While offering every possible support on behalf of Government of India and the Department of Youth Affairs for the laudable campaign launched by Shri Manoj Tiwari and his colleagues, Dr Jitendra Singh said that soon he will arrange a meeting of the local representatives with Government officials to work out how best the voluntary efforts of the citizens can be carried forward and what more can be done by way of developing a stadium or a youth centre to enable the youngsters to realize their talent and groom it. He said, he will ensure that every youth gets opportunity depending upon his talent and hard work without any favouritism or nepotism, whatsoever.
