Shri M. Arvind, IAS, has been appointed as Director in the Department of Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT). A distinguished officer of the Indian Administrative Service, Shri Arvind has demonstrated excellence in administration across multiple domains throughout his career. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics from Anna University, Chennai, graduating with First Class with Distinction, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand, also with First Class. His strong academic foundation has been complemented by extensive field experience and administrative expertise.
Shri Arvind’s career spans diverse portfolios in public administration, finance, health, revenue, and heritage management. He has served as Commissioner (Director Equivalent), Director of Museums, Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, Chennai (01/06/2023 – 31/07/2024), where he played a key role in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. Prior to this, he was Managing Director and Deputy Secretary in the Department of Health & Family Welfare, T.N. Medical Service Corporation, Chennai (11/02/2023 – Present), overseeing critical initiatives in medical services and public health administration.
His tenure as Collector and Deputy Secretary in Kanyakumari (29/10/2020 – 05/02/2023) allowed him to effectively manage land revenue and district administration, demonstrating his capacity for efficient governance at the grassroots level. Earlier assignments include Under Secretary in the Department of Finance, Chennai (16/03/2015 – 28/10/2020), where he contributed to financial management and policy implementation, and Sub Collector in Chidambaram (06/09/2013 – 10/03/2015), overseeing sub-divisional administration and disaster management. He also completed his training at LBSNAA, Mussoorie (29/08/2011 – 05/09/2013), which provided him with a strong foundation in administrative and policy functions.
