Ladakh Commences Widening of 230km Kargil-Zanskar National Highway

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, announced the commencement of the crucial upgrade and widening project for the 230-kilometer-long Kargil-Zanskar Road, a vital section of National Highway 301. The extensive project is divided into eight packages, with Package 5 already successfully completed, and Packages 6 and 7 slated for completion within this fiscal year.

This ambitious undertaking encompasses a total distance of 97.726 kilometers, including the construction of 13 major bridges, 18 minor bridges, and an impressive 620 box culverts. The project aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility in the region, bolstering transportation infrastructure in Ladakh. Upon completion, this all-weather road will serve as a crucial infrastructure asset, facilitating troop and heavy artillery movement. Beyond its strategic importance, the project is poised to spur economic development and boost tourism in the region.
