The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on June 12th, 2023, between the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) of the Republic of India and the ministries of Armenia, Antigua & Barbuda, Sierra Leone. These MoUs focus on cooperation in the field of sharing successful Digital Solutions implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation.
The MoUs aim to foster closer collaboration and the exchange of experiences and digital technology-based solutions, such as the INDIA STACK, to implement digital transformation initiatives. This collaboration is expected to lead to employment opportunities in the IT sector.
Each MoU will be effective from the date of signature and will remain in force for a period of 3 years. They will enhance both Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) bilateral cooperation in the field of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The activities outlined in these MoUs will be financed through the regular operating allocations of the respective administrations.
The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has been actively engaging with various countries and multilateral agencies to promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). These efforts align with India’s initiatives such as Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Make in India, which aim to transform the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The changing digital landscape emphasizes the need to explore business opportunities, share best practices, and attract investments in the digital sector to enhance mutual cooperation.
India has demonstrated leadership in implementing Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and ensuring the delivery of services to the public, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, many countries have expressed interest in learning from India’s experiences and have entered into MoUs to facilitate this exchange of knowledge.
India Stack Solutions, developed and implemented at a population scale, provide access and delivery of public services. These solutions aim to promote digital inclusion, meaningful connectivity, and seamless access to public services. They are built on open technologies, are interoperable, and encourage industry and community participation to foster innovation. While each country has its unique needs and challenges in building DPI, the fundamental functionality is similar, allowing for global cooperation.
