Khadi Commission inks MoUs for product promotion, nationwide infrastructure and IT solutions

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, entered into three significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to advance Khadi products and modernise the Commission.

  • MoU with Prasar Bharati: An important accord was established with Prasar Bharati, involving the participation of anchors from DD News and DD International channels who will be wearing Khadi attire in the near future. The primary objective of this collaboration is to amplify the appeal of Khadi products among the younger generation and promote awareness of this indigenous cultural heritage.
  • MoU with NBCC (India) Limited: NBCC (India) Limited will undertake the development of modern infrastructure for the Khadi and Village Industries Commission throughout the country. This initiative is expected to revamp KVIC’s infrastructure and promote its mission using state-of-the-art technology.
  • MoU with Digital India Corporation: To stay abreast of technological advancements, KVIC has partnered with Digital India Corporation. This alliance will facilitate the incorporation of cutting-edge technology into KVIC’s operations.

Additionally, a margin money subsidy of Rs 150 crore was distributed to beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) during the event.

Khadi was given as gifts to world leaders at the G-20 summit in Delhi. Khadi, originally championed by Mahatma Gandhi during India’s freedom struggle, continues to be a powerful socio-economic aspect by creating employment opportunities, empowering artisans and keeping alive traditional arts and crafts o India. In the previous fiscal year, trade in Khadi and village industry products surpassed Rs 1.34 lakh crore, and 9.54 lakh new jobs were generated.

The event also saw the launch of a dashboard and ATR Portal, aiding in monitoring KVIC’s schemes and facilitating efficient tracking of decisions and actions taken.

KVIC remains dedicated to preserving India’s rich heritage while advancing its economic and social well-being.
