Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a two-day International Workshop on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure organized by National Disaster Management Authority in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said, this workshop is a paradigm shift in the field of disaster management globally.

He said tremendous foresight and rigour are required to ensure that all our new infrastructure is built in such a way that it could withstand the hazards of the present as well as the future. The Minister said, in the coming decades, robust infrastructure will be at the core of sustainable development and at the global level, by 2040, to adequately meet the infrastructure needs of humanity, the government would require nearly 100 trillion dollars.

Reiterating the need of modern technology, he said, the advances in geospatial technology, computing capabilities, advances in artificial intelligence promise us a future where we will be able to make most optimal use of our resources to confront disaster effectively.

To take stock of the impact of disasters on different infrastructure sectors and good practices in making infrastructure disaster resilient and identify critical gaps in current practices that need to be addressed in the coming years were the main objectives of the workshop.
