India signs MoU with France on Jaitapur Nuclear Reactor

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh has informed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and Electricite De France (EDF), France for Implementation of six Evolutionary Pressurised Water Reactors (EPR) at Jaitapur, Maharashtra together with associated fuel, fuel services and other services.

The scope of work under the MoU is also to define technical configuration to meet the Indian statutory and regulatory requirements for certification and design.

  1. There are currently 22 nuclear power plants operating in the India. Many of them are older than the nulear plant of Fukushima. Most of them are in very bad condition, virtually identical in design to Unit One at Fukushima. These include the Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant, located near an earthquake fault line
