The Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare), Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey has informed that ‘Public Health & Hospitals’ being a State subject, the primary responsibility for provision of medicines, oxygen and other facilities in Government hospitals lies with respective State Government. However, under the National Health Mission (NHM), support is provided to States/UTs to strengthen their health systems including support for physical infrastructure, equipment, health human resource, free ambulance services, free services through Mobile Medical Units, NHM Free Drugs Service Initiative, the NHM Free Diagnostic Service Initiative, PM National Dialysis Programme, Quality Assurance, etc. based on requirements posed by the States in their Programme Implementation Plans. Kayakalp- initiative has been launched to promote cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices in public health facilities. Under this initiative public healthcare facilities are appraised and such public healthcare facilities that show exemplary performance meeting standards of protocols of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control receives awards and commendation.
