Shri Govind Jaiswal IAS (AGMUT 2007) presently Joint Secretary- Department of Higher Education has been given extension for a period of two years beyond 11.10.2025 by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Who Is Govind Jaiswal IAS : Shri Govind Jaiswal, a dedicated and accomplished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), has consistently demonstrated administrative acumen, policy foresight, and an unwavering commitment to public service over a career spanning more than 17 years across the Central Government and various State Governments. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, with a first-class distinction in science.
Currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, since July 2023, Shri Jaiswal is playing a pivotal role in shaping policies that impact millions of learners and academic institutions across the nation. His leadership is aligned with the goals of NEP 2020 and focuses on strengthening the higher education ecosystem through transformative reforms and inclusive strategies.
Before this, he served with distinction as Director in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (January 2021 to July 2023), where he contributed to crucial national health initiatives and policy execution during a challenging period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. His deep understanding of governance, health systems, and stakeholder coordination made him a key asset in the ministry.
Earlier, he held the position of Deputy Secretary in the same ministry and has held several important portfolios in various capacities across Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Delhi. These include Secretary-level positions in key departments such as Transport, Environment & Forest, Ports & Fisheries, and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. In all these roles, Shri Jaiswal has demonstrated exemplary commitment to sustainable development, public welfare, and effective grassroots administration.
Notably, as District Magistrate in Delhi (2015-2016) and Deputy Commissioner in Nagaland, he handled district administration with integrity and sensitivity, gaining commendation for his efficient governance and responsiveness to public needs.
From his early career postings as Sub-Divisional Officer and Assistant Commissioner in Nagaland to his tenure as DG & Executive Director of the Sports Development Authority of Goa, Shri Jaiswal has shown an ability to adapt, lead, and innovate in diverse administrative environments.
Shri Govind Jaiswal’s journey from a science graduate to a senior bureaucrat is marked by dedication, professionalism, and a deep sense of public duty.
