Before assuming charge in Malta, Mrs. Gangte was Joint Secretary in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Division at the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, where she steered India’s relations with more than 33 countries. During her tenure of over three years, she played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s outreach to the LAC region, facilitating cooperation in trade, culture, education, and diplomacy. Prior to this, Mrs. Gangte was Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Muscat, Oman (2015–2016), where she contributed significantly to enhancing bilateral ties and addressing the welfare of the large Indian diaspora. She also served as Counsellor (Political) at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations Offices in Geneva (2011–2014), where she played a critical role as a key Indian delegate to the UN Human Rights Council. Her contribution during this period reflected her deep understanding of multilateral diplomacy and her ability to uphold India’s principled positions with clarity and conviction.
Her overseas assignments also include her tenure at the Indian Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2005–2008), where she worked on political, commercial, cultural, and information portfolios, and at the Embassy of India in Madrid, Spain (2002–2005), where she served as Head of Chancery and handled consular responsibilities with efficiency and compassion.
In New Delhi, Mrs. Gangte has held important responsibilities in the East Asia Division, dealing with China and Japan (2001), and later as Deputy Secretary in the Latin American and Caribbean Division (2008–2011), contributing to the shaping of India’s foreign policy with those regions.
