Shri Gaurav Dayal IAS (Uttar Pradesh 2004), presently Divisional Commissioner, Ayodhya has been transferred as Secretary – Home Department, Uttar Pradesh.
Shri Gaurav Dayal, a senior and accomplished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from the 2004 batch, has been appointed as Secretary, Home Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Known for his extensive administrative experience and principled leadership, Shri Dayal brings with him over two decades of service in various key roles across the state.
An alumnus of the University of Delhi, Shri Dayal holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics, graduating with First Division, a reflection of his analytical mindset and structured approach to governance.
Prior to his present assignment, he served as Divisional Commissioner, Ayodhya, where he supervised crucial developmental and administrative initiatives in the historic and culturally significant region. His tenure was marked by coordination of large-scale projects, public grievance redressal, and inter-departmental planning, especially in the backdrop of the Ram Temple project.
He has previously held the position of Divisional Commissioner in Aligarh and Chitrakoot, where he led divisional administration with an emphasis on infrastructural growth, law and order, and developmental schemes tailored to regional needs.
Shri Dayal also has deep experience at the district level, having served as District Magistrate in several important districts including Agra, Bareilly, Lakhimpur Kheri, Jhansi, Jaunpur, and Etah. His work in these assignments spanned disaster management, elections, public health initiatives, rural development, and improving public service delivery.
His central roles include having been Special Secretary and Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary, Special Secretary, Tourism Department, and Commissioner in the Industries Department, where he demonstrated policy acumen and a balanced administrative approach.
Known for his clarity, responsiveness, and hands-on leadership style, Shri Dayal has earned a reputation for stabilizing complex administrative environments and ensuring effective implementation of government schemes. His elevation to the Home Department is seen as a strategic move by the state government, especially given his understanding of field-level dynamics and bureaucratic coordination.
