Ganga Ram Punia IPS appointed as SP- CBI
Shri Ganga Ram Punia IPS (Haryana 2013) has been appointed as SP in CBI for a period of five years.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is India’s premier investigating agency, functioning under the Department of Personnel and Training in the Government of India. Established in 1963, it evolved from the Special Police Establishment formed during World War II to investigate corruption in government departments.
The CBI handles a wide range of cases, including corruption, economic offenses, special crimes, and high-profile cases with national and international implications. It is known for probing complex scams, frauds, and cases involving public servants, often stepping in when state police agencies require support or when directed by the courts.
The agency operates under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, and requires consent from state governments to investigate cases within their jurisdiction, unless ordered by constitutional courts. Over the years, the CBI has played a crucial role in maintaining accountability and transparency in governance.
Despite its importance, the CBI has faced criticism regarding political interference and autonomy. Nevertheless, it remains a key institution in India’s law enforcement framework, striving to uphold integrity, fairness, and the rule of law in the country.
Indian Bureaucracy News wishes Shri Ganga Ram Punia the very best.
