Shri Devesh Chaturvedi IAS (Uttar Pradesh 1989) presently Secretary- Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare given additional charge as Secretary- Department of Agricultural Research and Education .

Shri Chaturvedi’s illustrious career in the Indian Administrative Service commenced in 1989, with his training as a Junior Scale Officer. He quickly progressed through various important roles, demonstrating an exceptional ability to manage complex administrative challenges. His first field assignments included serving as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Ranikhet (1992-1993) and other locations, where he played a key role in grassroots governance.

His administrative acumen soon led to key district-level appointments. He was posted as Chief Development Officer (CDO) in Nainital (1993-1995) and Rae Bareli (1995-1997), where he implemented several welfare and development initiatives. Recognizing his potential, he was promoted to the prestigious position of District Magistrate (DM), first serving in Pithoragarh (1997-1998) and later in Deoria (1998-1999), Bulandshahr (1999-2000), Kanpur Dehat (2000), Gorakhpur (2000-2001), and Allahabad (2001-2004). During these tenures, he worked tirelessly to improve law and order, land revenue management, and public service delivery.

Moving to more strategic administrative roles, Shri Chaturvedi served as Special Secretary (1999) and Additional Director (2004-2005) in the Urban Administration & Development Department, Lucknow. His efficiency and leadership led him to take charge as Executive Director, Health & Family Welfare (2005). Soon after, he was appointed Commissioner of Azamgarh (2005-2006), where he played a crucial role in district administration and governance.

His expertise in diverse domains led to his appointment as Director of Food & Civil Supplies (2006), followed by a stint as Secretary, Forest Department (2006-2007). He also held key electoral positions, including Secretary, Elections Department, and Additional Chief Electoral Officer (2007), ensuring free and fair elections.

Shri Chaturvedi then moved to the tourism sector, where he served as Director and Additional Director General of Tourism (2007-2012) at the central level. His leadership helped boost India’s tourism potential and promote sustainable tourism policies. Subsequently, he was appointed as Divisional Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh (2012-2013), overseeing land revenue management and district administration.

Continuing his distinguished service, he held crucial positions such as Secretary, Higher Education (2013), and Principal Secretary, Minorities Welfare (2014-2015). His tenure in Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions (2015-2018) as Joint Secretary was marked by significant policy reforms.

In 2018, he joined the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, initially as Joint Secretary (2018) and later as Additional Secretary (2018-2019). His expertise in agricultural policy was recognized when he was appointed Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Uttar Pradesh (2019-2020), followed by his role as Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture & Personnel Departments (2020-2024) in Uttar Pradesh.

Currently, Shri Devesh Chaturvedi serves as the Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India (2024-2026), where he is instrumental in shaping national agricultural policies and promoting farmers’ welfare.

Throughout his career, Shri Chaturvedi has demonstrated exemplary leadership, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to public service. His contributions have left an indelible mark on India’s administrative landscape, benefiting millions through progressive policies and efficient governance.

Shri Devesh Chaturvedi has an impressive academic background with degrees from some of India’s premier institutions. He began his educational journey with a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, , M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering from IIT Delhi, . Expanding his expertise in public administration, he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Policy from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore, where he was awarded a Gold Medal for his outstanding performance. His academic pursuit culminated in a Ph.D. in Management from IIT Delhi, further strengthening his expertise in administrative and policy matters.
