COAS proceeds on visit to Manipur

On May 27 and 28, 2023, General Manoj Pande, the Chief of Army Staff, is scheduled to visit Manipur. During his visit, he will interact with local formation commanders and troops at various locations to gain firsthand information about the ground situation.

On May 28, General Pande will hold meetings with Ms. Anusuiya Uikey, the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Mr. N Biren Singh, the Chief Minister, and Mr. Kuldiep Singh, the Chief Security Advisor of Manipur. The purpose of these meetings will be to discuss and deliberate on the current situation and future trajectory, with the aim of restoring normalcy in Manipur at the earliest.

The requisitioning of the Army and Assam Rifles by the State Administration in Manipur was a response to the internal security situation in the region on May 3, 2023. In response to the requisition, the Army and Assam Rifles deployed 135 columns to address the situation by actively dominating sensitive and fringe areas. As part of their operations, approximately 35,000 civilians were evacuated to safe zones, and the Army and Assam Rifles provided immediate relief and humanitarian aid to displaced civilians.
