On November 27, 2024, General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), presented the prestigious President’s Colours to four battalions of the Mechanised Infantry at a solemn ceremony held at the Mechanised Infantry Centre and School (MIC&S), Ahilyanagar. The President’s Colours were awarded to the 26th and 27th Battalions of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment and the 20th and 22nd Battalions of the Brigade of The Guards, marking a significant milestone for these youngest battalions of the Indian Army.

The event was attended by a large number of veterans, military personnel, and civil dignitaries, highlighting the significance of the honour. The COAS reviewed the Colour Presentation Parade, commending the exceptional standards displayed by the battalions, both in marching and mounted contingents. He presented the Colours on behalf of the President of India, acknowledging their exemplary service and dedication.

In his address, General Dwivedi praised the Mechanised Infantry for its professionalism, valour, and operational proficiency. He noted the Arm’s remarkable contributions in major operations, including Op PAWAN, Op VIJAY, Op RAKSHAK, and Op SNOW LEOPARD, as well as its vital role in UN peacekeeping missions. The Mechanised Infantry, which was established in 1979, is celebrated for blending Infantry and Mechanised Forces, making it a key and versatile combat arm of the Indian Army.

The COAS emphasized the ongoing modernisation of the Mechanised Infantry, with the introduction of advanced systems such as Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicles, Nag Missile Systems, Canister Launched Anti-Armour Systems, and Mini Remotely Piloted Aircrafts. These advancements, built on the foundation of self-reliance, ensure that the Mechanised Infantry remains a decisive force in future conflicts. General Dwivedi also highlighted the importance of the Indian Army’s decade of transformation and encouraged the units to contribute significantly to this ongoing transformation.

The presentation of the President’s Colours is a prestigious recognition, historically symbolizing a unit’s identity and achievements. Although originally serving as rallying points in battle, Colours now continue to inspire morale, motivation, and unity among troops. These ceremonial flags are awarded to units upon completing specified meritorious service, both in operations and peacetime.

In addition to presenting the Colours, the COAS also honoured four Veteran Achievers for their outstanding contributions to the welfare of ex-servicemen and society. He extended his best wishes to all ranks and their families and urged the Mechanised Infantry to uphold the highest standards of excellence, serving the Nation with dedication and in line with the core values of the Indian Army.
