Shri Anand Bardhan, a distinguished officer of the Indian Administrative Service, has recently been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, marking a significant milestone in an illustrious and impactful career in public administration. An alumnus of Delhi University, he holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics with First Class and Distinction, and later pursued a Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A.) from the same university, again graduating with distinction. He also enhanced his administrative acumen with a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the prestigious École Nationale d’Administration, Paris, where he was recognized for his academic excellence.
Over the years, Shri Bardhan has held a wide spectrum of key assignments across departments such as Personnel, Finance, Revenue, Urban Development, Home, Environment, Education, and Water Resources in the Government of Uttarakhand. His versatility and deep understanding of governance are reflected in his leadership roles as Additional Chief Secretary, Agricultural Production Commissioner, Infrastructure Development Commissioner, and Principal Secretary across multiple domains. He has also served as Chief Executive Officer and Principal Secretary in watershed management and irrigation, contributing to sustainable development and environmental management.
Shri Bardhan’s experience extends beyond the state as well—he has served with distinction as a Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi, representing India’s interests in overseas Indian affairs. His administrative prowess has been visible in challenging roles such as Kumbh Mela Officer, Divisional Commissioner, and District Magistrate of Haridwar, where he demonstrated exceptional crisis management and coordination skills.
