Shri Ajit Roy, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, is widely regarded as a dynamic and accomplished administrator with a strong blend of academic excellence and rich governance experience. He pursued his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, one of India’s premier engineering institutions. He further enhanced his academic profile with a Master’s degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, specializing in economic policy and development studies. Demonstrating a continued commitment to learning, he also completed a MicroMasters in Development Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, gaining global insights into economic development and public policy.

Shri Roy began his journey in public service with foundational training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, where he developed core administrative skills essential for a career in the IAS. Early in his career, he served in the Department of Telecommunications under the Government of India, gaining exposure to the communications and information technology sector. He later took on field-level responsibilities as Sub-Divisional Magistrate, where he handled land administration, law and order, and grassroots governance.

His administrative capabilities were further showcased during his tenure in Goa. As Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, he contributed significantly to urban governance, municipal administration, and infrastructure management. He then served as District Collector and District Magistrate of South Goa and later North Goa, where he played a key role in maintaining law and order, implementing government schemes, and ensuring effective district-level administration. His tenure in these roles was marked by a focus on efficient service delivery and responsive governance.

Shri Ajit Roy’s experience also includes a crucial assignment as Secretary to the Chief Minister of Goa, where he was closely involved in policy coordination, decision-making processes, and inter-departmental administration. This role required a high level of strategic thinking and administrative coordination, which he handled with notable competence.

Subsequently, he was posted to Mizoram, where he held multiple important portfolios as Special Secretary in departments such as Education and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services. In these roles, he contributed to sectoral policy implementation and administrative oversight, demonstrating his versatility across diverse domains of governance.

Currently, Shri Roy serves as Secretary to the Governor in Mizoram, a position that involves high-level administrative responsibilities and coordination with constitutional authorities. His work in this role reflects his deep understanding of governance and public administration.
