Abhishek Pathak IPS given extension as IG- BSF
Shri Abhishek Pathak IPS (Chhattisgarg 2004) presenly IG- BSF has been given extension of deputation tenure for a period of one year beyond 10.03.2026 (total 8 years) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
The position of Inspector General (IG) in the Border Security Force is a senior leadership role responsible for commanding a frontier or specialized formation within India’s primary border guarding force. An IG oversees operational readiness, border management, intelligence coordination, and administrative control across multiple sectors under their jurisdiction.
The role involves ensuring effective surveillance, countering cross-border threats, and maintaining security along sensitive international boundaries. IGs also coordinate closely with the Army, state police, and central agencies to ensure seamless security operations and crisis response.
In addition to operational duties, the IG is responsible for personnel management, logistics, and welfare of the force under command. The position demands strategic thinking, decisive leadership, and high levels of professionalism. Widely regarded in Indian Bureaucracy and security circles, the IG-BSF plays a pivotal role in safeguarding national security and maintaining stability along India’s borders.
