World Environment Day celebrations in SJVN

World Environment Day is celebrated on 5^th June every year and is United Nation’s primary vehicle for spreading global awareness and action for protection of environment.   Rising to the occasion SJVN also enthusiastically celebrated World Environment Day today in its Corporate Office, Shanan. The theme for World Environment Day 2018 is “Rethink Plastic: To Rise above It”.

A series of programs were organized to commemorate the event. The celebrations commenced with the tree plantation at the Corporate Office Complex, Shanan by Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, Sh A S Bindra, Director (Finance), Sh R K Bansal, Director (Electrical), Sh Kanwar Singh, Director (Civil) and other senior officials of SJVN.

Addressing the gathering, Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director said that such celebrations go a long way in spreading the awareness amongst masses. He further added that nature has been kind enough to provide us with all that we need but our life styles have changed so much that the nature is being exploited to an extent that is resulting in creation of imbalances, which are leading to extreme weather conditions and scarcity of natural resources essential for life on the planet earth. He exhorted all to act in a manner so as to strike a judicious ecological balance, the state in which the natural resources are utilized for betterment of human race rather than their exploitation for our greed.

A declamation contest on the theme of World Environment Day and completion involving creating art from waste was organized earlier for students of different schools in the vicinity of Corporate Office of SJVN. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions.( List Enclosed)

The celebrations were concluded with a presentation on “Sustainable Plastic Management” by Dr. Rakesh Kapoor Special Secretary to Government of Himachal Pradesh and an authority on Waste Management in general and specially Plastic Management.
