Shri Vimlendra Sharan IAS (Maharashtra 1992) presently Director, Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Liaison Office for North America, Washington DC , has been given extension of tenure for a period beyond 30/11/2018 upto 31/12/2019. Shri Sharan is bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from St Stephen’s College, Delhi, India and an MBA in Public Service from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.  Shri Sharan started his career in 1994 within the Government of the State of Maharashtra, India, holding positions of increasing responsibility such as Sub-divisional Magistrate from 1995 to 1996; Chief Executive Officer and District Development Authority from 1996 to 1997; Deputy Secretary to Governor of Maharashtra from 1998 to 2000; Municipal Commissioner, Nasik Municipal Corporation from 2003 to 2004. He joined the Federal Government of India in 2004 as Director of the International Cultural Relation Division within the Ministry of Culture. From 2006 to 2012, he served as Private Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture and from 2012 to 2013, he was Joint Secretary (Trade) in the Ministry of Agriculture. From 2013 to September 2016, he was Minister (Agriculture) and Alternate Permanent Representative of India to the Rome-based UN Agencies in the Embassy of India in Rome. Shri  Sharan succeeds Shri Markanday as Director, Liaison Office for North America (LOW) in Washington.
