Vijaylakshmi Barua IAS appointed to Junior Administrative Grade of IAS
Smt Vijaylakshmi Barua IAS (Assam Meghalaya 2015) presently Secretary – Handloom, Textiles & Sericulture Department, Assam and Welfare of Bodoland Department (addl) has been appointed to the Junior Administrative Grade of IAS (Level 12 of Pay Matrix) .
The Secretary of the Handloom, Textiles & Sericulture Department, Government of Assam, is a senior administrative officer responsible for overseeing the development and administration of the state’s handloom, textile, and sericulture sectors. The role involves formulating policies, implementing government schemes, and promoting sustainable growth in these traditional industries, which are closely linked to the livelihoods of thousands of weavers and sericulture farmers across Assam. The Secretary supervises key directorates and agencies under the department and ensures effective execution of programs related to skill development, infrastructure support, marketing assistance, and technological advancement. The position also focuses on preserving Assam’s rich weaving heritage while promoting indigenous silk varieties such as Muga, Eri, and Pat in national and international markets. Through strategic planning and administrative oversight, the Secretary works to strengthen the sector’s contribution to rural employment, cultural preservation, and economic development in the state, reflecting ongoing priorities often highlighted in Indian Bureaucracy.
