Taranjit Singh Sandhu appointed as Lt. Governor of Delhi
Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as Lt. Governor of Delhi.
Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who previously served as Ambassador of India to the United States of America, has had a distinguished career in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Ministry of External Affairs, with extensive diplomatic experience in multilateral and bilateral assignments.
Earlier in his career, Shri Sandhu served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. from July 2013 to January 2017, where he played an important role in strengthening India–US diplomatic engagement. Prior to this, he was Consul General of India in Frankfurt, Germany, from September 2011 to July 2013, handling diplomatic and consular responsibilities in the region.
Between March 2009 and August 2011, he served in the Ministry of External Affairs as Joint Secretary (United Nations) and later as Joint Secretary (Administration), where he headed the ministry’s Human Resource Division.
Shri Sandhu also served at the **Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York City from July 2005 to February 2009, contributing to India’s diplomatic engagement with the United Nations.
Earlier in his diplomatic career, he was First Secretary (Political) at the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. (1997–2000), where he was responsible for liaison with the United States Congress.
He also served as Head of the Political Wing at the High Commission of India in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from December 2000 to September 2004, managing key political and strategic engagements between the two countries.
