Sunil Joon promoted as ADG- Central Reserve Police Force
Shri Sunil Joon has been promoted to the grade of Additional Director General (ADG) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stands as the largest paramilitary force in India and one of the most prominent internal security organisations in the world. With a legacy dating back to 1939, the CRPF has evolved into a formidable force that represents commitment, discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering service to the nation. Operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the organisation plays a pivotal role in maintaining internal security, countering insurgency, assisting civil authorities, and safeguarding democratic processes.
The CRPF’s foundational purpose lies in supporting state and central governments in maintaining law and order. Over the years, its responsibilities have expanded massively due to the dynamic nature of security challenges and geopolitical environments. The force has earned national admiration for its professionalism and resilience while handling complex security situations across diverse terrains—from dense forests and rugged mountains to metropolitan cities and sensitive border regions.
A major area of CRPF’s deployment is counter-insurgency and anti-Naxal operations. The personnel serving in Left Wing Extremism–affected regions operate in high-risk environments where adaptability, strategy, and precise coordination are indispensable. The CRPF has played a crucial role in restoring state authority and ensuring community security in several once-disturbed regions, enabling developmental activities and economic progress. Its specialised COBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) units are trained in guerrilla warfare and jungle combat, reflecting the force’s commitment to continuous modernisation.
Beyond counter-insurgency, the CRPF is at the forefront of anti-terror operations, especially in Jammu & Kashmir. Alongside the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and other security agencies, the CRPF has been instrumental in neutralising extremist networks, reducing radicalisation, and ensuring the safety of civilians. The valor displayed by CRPF personnel during high-intensity encounters, convoy security missions, and law-and-order emergencies has made the force a symbol of national courage.
