Shri Sumeet Kumar Jarangal IAS (Punjab 2009) has been appointed as Joint Secretary- Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade for a combined tenure of five years upto 02/04/2028 vice Shri Sanjiv IRS (IT 1993).

He continued to build his field experience through various roles in district administration, including Additional Commissioner in Ludhiana and multiple assignments as Additional Deputy Commissioner in districts such as Bathinda and Fazilka. His subsequent tenure as Deputy Commissioner in Muktsar and later in Roop Nagar marked a significant phase, placing him at the helm of district administration with responsibilities spanning governance, public service delivery, and crisis management.

As Managing Director of the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation, he contributed to the promotion of small-scale industries and export facilitation. His work in this domain reflects a focus on economic growth, industrial support, and entrepreneurship development.

Dr. Jarangal’s administrative versatility is further evident in his roles related to labour, employment, and skill development. As Joint Development Commissioner under the National Rural Employment Guarantee framework, he was involved in implementing employment schemes and strengthening rural livelihoods. His additional responsibilities as Labour Commissioner, Mission Director for Skill Development, and Director General for Employment Generation and Training highlight his engagement with workforce development and labour administration.

In the energy sector, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Punjab Energy Development Agency and in roles related to alternative energy. These assignments involved promoting renewable energy initiatives, including bio-fuels and sustainable energy solutions, reflecting his involvement in emerging policy areas linked to environmental sustainability and energy security.

His tenure in information and public relations as Director added another dimension to his administrative profile, involving communication strategies, public outreach, and media coordination. He also held additional charges in protocol, civil aviation, hospitality, and investment promotion, demonstrating a capacity to manage diverse administrative responsibilities simultaneously.

At the central level, Dr. Jarangal has been associated with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. As Director, he handled responsibilities related to agro-industries and industrial policy implementation. Currently, he serves as Joint Secretary in DPIIT, where he is involved in overseeing trade fairs and related initiatives.
