Shri Sukesh Kumar Jain IPS (West Bengal 2005), presently IGP- Traffic, West Bengal, has been transferred and posted as IGP- North Bengal Region, West Bengal.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) – North Bengal Region is a senior Indian Police Service officer entrusted with supervising policing and security operations across the northern districts under the West Bengal Police. The region includes strategically important and geographically diverse districts such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, and Malda. The IGP provides leadership to Range DIGs and Superintendents of Police, ensuring effective law enforcement, crime control, intelligence coordination, and maintenance of public order.
Given North Bengal’s proximity to international borders and its significance as a major transit and tourism corridor, the role demands close coordination with central security agencies and civil administration. The IGP also oversees sensitive operations during elections, festivals, and emergencies while implementing state policing policies and modernization initiatives. Through strategic supervision and community engagement, the IGP – North Bengal Region plays a crucial role in maintaining stability and strengthening public confidence in policing across the region.
