Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey has informed that The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has notified the Guidelines on the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Plastic Packaging vide Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2022, on 16th February, 2022. The enforceable prescription of targets for reuse of rigid plastic packaging and use of recycled plastic content in plastic packaging will reduce the use of fresh plastic material for the manufacture of plastic packaging. The use recycled plastic in packaging for processed food and reuse of rigid plastic packaging food contact applications is subject to the standards and regulations issued under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006) by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
