The Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme is implemented in 1300 identified Minority Concentration Areas (MCAs) of the Country with the objective to develop socio-economic assets and basic amenities in these areas. The areas covered under PMJVK have been increased from 90 Districts originally to 308 Districts in 33 States/ UTs. The MCAs include 870 Minority Concentration Blocks (MCBs) and 321 Minority Concentration Towns (MCTs) and 109 Minority Concentration District Headquarters (MCD Hqrs) added for the first time. The MCAs have been identified on the basis of substantial population of minority population, and backwardness parameters in terms of socio-economic or basic amenity indicators which are below national average. Priority sectors under the scheme are education, health, skill development and women centric projects. Projects under PMJVK are implemented by States/ UTs/ Central Government Organizations as per the need of the identified MCAs.
Since inception of the Scheme, the Ministry has sanctioned the following major projects:- 42 Degree Colleges, 180 Residential Schools, 3,062 School Buildings, 43,838 Additional Class Rooms/ACR Blocks, 15,545 Teaching Aid & Smart Classrooms, 1,376 Hostels, 24 Working Women Hostels, 232 ITI Buildings, 55 Polytechnics, 21 Skill Centres, 5,382 Health Projects, 01 Unani Medical College, 81,503 Drinking Water Supply Projects, 40,795 Anganwadi Centres, 408 Sadhbhav Mandaps, 01 Sadbhav Kendra, 168 Common Service Centres, 609 Market Sheds, 09 Hunar Hubs, 9,330 Sanitation/Toilet projects, 76 Sports Facilities, etc.
Out of these, the following major projects have been sanctioned with effect from 2014-15:- 35 Degree Colleges, 174 Residential Schools, 1,546 School Buildings, 23,463 Additional Class Rooms/ACR Blocks, 14,312 Teaching Aid & Smart Classrooms, 684 Hostels, 23 Working Women Hostels, 97 ITI Buildings, 13 Polytechnics, 16 Skill Centres, 1,997 Health Projects, 01 Unani Medical College, 18,630 Drinking Water Supply Projects, 6,041 Anganwadi Centres, 408 Sadhbhav Mandaps, 01 Sadbhav Kendra, 168 Common Service Centres, 553 Market Sheds, 09 Hunar Hubs, 5,455 Sanitation/Toilet projects, 76 Sports Facilities, etc.
Under the PMJVK scheme, after 2014-15, 49,022 major projects amounting to Rs.10,04,812.00 lakhs have been sanctioned compared to 31,329 major projects amounting to Rs.3,41,087.00 Lakhs before 2014-15.
