Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal is visiting Vladivostok, Russia, to attend the Eastern Economic Forum. During his visit, he will meet Russian officials, including Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, Alexey Chekunkov, and Minister for Transport of Russia, Vitaly Saveliev. The objective is to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation in various sectors.
Minister Sonowal will address the India-Russia Business Dialogue at the forum, emphasizing the role of trade, commerce, and business in the strategic partnership between India and Russia. He will also discuss the Eastern Maritime Corridor, explore possibilities for the Northern Sea Route, and establish a Transshipment Hub in the Bay of Bengal.
The Eastern Maritime Corridor aims to reduce cargo transit times between India and Russia, offering significant trade and cooperation opportunities for both countries.
The 8th Eastern Economic Forum, held from September 10 to 13, 2023, in Vladivostok, serves as a crucial platform for strengthening global investment connections and evaluating the economic potential of Russia’s Far East and special economic zones. It was established in 2015 to support the development of Russia’s Far East and promote international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
