The Foundation for Aviation & Sustainable Tourism (FAST) organised the Seminar on “Make in India : Challenges and Opportunities in Civil Aviation Sector” at the India International Centre . Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation

Shri P Ashok Gajapathi Raju was the chief guest and inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp along with Secretary Civil Aviation Shri R N Choubey besides others on the dias.While welcoming the delegates, Lt. Gen. KM Seth (Retd.), former Governor of Tripura & Chhattisgarh and President FAST emphasized that unless all the stake holders come together and make coordinated effort, it will be very difficult to bring about transformation in the aviation sector.FAST-indianbureaucracy

The Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation said that the civil aviation industry in India has ushered a new era of expansion driven by factors such as low-cost carriers (LCC), modernization of airports, foreign direct investments (FDI) in domestic airlines, cutting edge information technology(IT) interventions and a growing emphasis on regional connectivity and therefore we must utilize the opportunities available under the “Make in India” initiative. Dr. Mahesh Sharma underlined the importance of better coordination between Civil Aviation and Tourism sectors in synchronizing the developmental activities in both these sectors. Secretary civil aviation talked about the review of civil aviation policies and consolidation of various fragments which will provide a roadmap towards growth of the civil aviation sector.

After the inaugural session, detailed deliberations took place in the four Business Sessions – on (i) MROs, (ii) Skill Development & technology transfer, (iii) Manufacturing & Infrastructure Developmental issues and (iv) Upgradation of Navigation and Airfield Systems. Various suggestions emerged out of these discussions for opening up to the opportunities and need to discover and invent locally along with skill development and technology transfer, to “Make in India” initiative a success. Both the Hon’ble Ministers and Secretary, Civil Aviation desired that the deliberations made during the one day seminar shall be documented and presented in the form of compendium so as to facility to draw up a way forward in this direction.
