Shri Satyabrata Mukherjee is a seasoned professional in the defence sector, known for his extensive experience across manufacturing, research and development, quality assurance, human resources, and project management. With a strong technical foundation and a strategic outlook, he has contributed significantly to advancing India’s defence production capabilities and strengthening indigenous manufacturing systems.
Academically, Shri Mukherjee possesses an impressive and diverse educational background. He holds an MSc in Military Vehicle Technology from Cranfield University, reflecting his specialized knowledge in defence systems and vehicle engineering. He also earned an MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras, equipping him with a broader understanding of defence policy and strategic affairs. Earlier, he completed his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University, West Bengal, laying the groundwork for his technical expertise.
Throughout his career, Shri Mukherjee has demonstrated a strong ability to lead complex defence projects, ensuring adherence to stringent quality standards and regulatory frameworks. His work has involved optimizing manufacturing processes, improving operational efficiency, and supporting innovation in defence technologies. He is particularly recognized for his role in promoting indigenous capabilities, aligning with national priorities of self-reliance in defence production.
In addition to his technical and operational strengths, he has successfully handled organizational responsibilities, including human resource management and institutional development. Before assuming his current role, Shri Mukherjee served as Director (HR) at India Optel Limited (IOL), a Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence. In this capacity, he was responsible for key HR functions and organizational strategy, contributing to workforce development and institutional strengthening.
He currently serves as Director (Operations) at Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), where he oversees critical operational functions related to defence manufacturing and production. His role involves managing complex production systems, ensuring quality compliance, and supporting the delivery of advanced defence equipment.
In recognition of his contributions to defence production and excellence in the sector, Shri Mukherjee has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Ayudh Bhushan’ award. His career reflects a consistent commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and strengthening India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
