Shri Santosh Kumar IFoS (AGMUT 1993) presently CVO- National Hydro Power Corporation Ltd. (NHPC), Delhi has been given extension of deputation tenure for a further period of six months beyond 06.12.2025 i.e. upto 06.06.2026 .
Shri Santosh Kumar is a distinguished officer with a strong academic background in engineering and forestry. A Mechanical Engineering graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (1988–1992), he went on to complete his M. Tech in Thermal Engineering from IIT-BHU, Varanasi in 1994. He later underwent professional training at the prestigious Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun, which laid the foundation for his exemplary career in the Indian Forest Service.
Over the years, Shri Kumar has served in various capacities across multiple States and Union Territories, holding significant positions such as Divisional Forest Officer, Banderdewa Forest Division; Director, Tourism, Arunachal Pradesh; DCF & Member Secretary, Pollution Control Committee and Director (IT & Science & Technology), UT Administration of Daman, Diu & Dadra Nagar Haveli; DCF (Planning & Statistics), Government of Goa; Chief Conservator of Forests, Chief Wildlife Warden, Director (Environment), and Director (Science & Technology and Renewable Energy), Chandigarh. He also served as CEO of Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST).
His leadership in Chandigarh was particularly noteworthy, where he spearheaded the city’s transformation into one of India’s leading Solar Cities. Under his guidance, Chandigarh received two National Excellence Awards in 2016—for being the Best Solar City of the Country and for Best Performing Nodal Agency for Renewable Energy among UTs and special category states.
Shri Kumar’s vast administrative experience spans forests, environment, tourism, IT, and renewable energy. He has also gained valuable international exposure by traveling to countries such as the USA, Germany, France, Finland, Denmark, Morocco, and Russia, studying best practices in forestry and renewable energy management.
Before taking charge as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), NHPC, he served as Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF), Chief Wildlife Warden, Goa, and Managing Director of Goa Forest Development Corporation, contributing significantly to environmental governance and sustainable development.
