Shri Sanjay Bhattacharya IFS (1987), presently Ambassador of India to the Arab Republic of Egypt has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Turkey. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly. Shri Bhattacharya read Economics at St. Stephens College, University of Delhi and at the Delhi School of Economics. He has studied Chinese at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Shri Bhattacharya has worked in various capacities in Hong Kong (1989-92), Beijing (1992-95 and 2002-05), Brussels (1998-2001), Tokyo (2007-10) and Dhaka (2010-12), besides Headquarters. He was Joint Secretary (South) in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi from 2012-2015. He assumed charge as Ambassador of India to Egypt on May 12, 2015. He has contributed a chapter on “India and China: New Directions” in Indian Foreign Policy – Challenges and Opportunities(2007).
