The initiative is aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality eye care services in the region.

REC Limited Pledges Under CSR for Sankara Eye Hospital Project

The project will be implemented by Sankara Eye Hospital and is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s operational capacity by enabling the procurement of advanced medical equipment and essential support systems. With improved infrastructure, the hospital will be able to deliver specialized, timely, and affordable eye care services to patients from Saharsa and nearby districts of Bihar.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the project was formally signed on March 9, 2026, at the REC Limited office located in the SCOPE Complex in New Delhi. The agreement was signed by Shri Pradeep Fellows, Executive Director (CSR), REC Limited, and Wg Cdr V. Shankar (Retd), Trustee and Executive Director of Sankara Eye Hospital.

The CSR initiative reflects REC Limited’s continued focus on supporting healthcare infrastructure in underserved regions of the country. By facilitating the procurement of both clinical and non-clinical equipment, the project will strengthen diagnostic and treatment capabilities at the Saharsa facility. It is expected to benefit thousands of patients annually, particularly those from economically weaker sections who often face challenges in accessing specialized eye care services.

Sankara Eye Hospital has been widely recognized for its mission of providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible eye care. Through this partnership, the hospital is expected to expand its reach and enhance service delivery in Bihar, where access to specialized healthcare facilities remains limited in many rural and semi-urban areas.

The initiative also aligns with REC Limited’s broader CSR vision of supporting sustainable development and improving the quality of life in communities across India. Healthcare, education, and rural development remain key focus areas for the company’s CSR activities.

REC Limited is a ‘Maharatna’ Central Public Sector Enterprise under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power. The company is registered with the Reserve Bank of India as a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), Public Financial Institution (PFI), and Infrastructure Financing Company (IFC).

REC plays a crucial role in financing the entire power infrastructure sector, including generation, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, and emerging technologies such as electric vehicles, battery storage, pumped storage projects, green hydrogen, and green ammonia initiatives.

In recent years, REC has also diversified into non-power infrastructure sectors, including roads and expressways, metro rail, airports, IT and communication networks, ports, and social infrastructure such as educational institutions and hospitals.

The company provides loans of various maturities to state, central, and private sector entities for the creation of infrastructure assets across the country. REC has played a strategic role in implementing several flagship government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), and the National Electricity Fund (NEF) Scheme.

Through these initiatives, REC has contributed to strengthening last-mile distribution systems, achieving 100% village electrification, and expanding household electrification across India. The company is also designated as the nodal agency for several states and union territories under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). Additionally, the Government of India has entrusted REC with the responsibility of implementing the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Through its financing operations and CSR initiatives, REC Limited continues to play a pivotal role in supporting infrastructure development and improving the quality of life for communities across the country.
