REC Limited Honoured with ICC Green Urja and Energy Efficiency Gold Award
REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power and one of India’s leading non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), has been honoured with the prestigious Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Green Urja and Energy Efficiency Award, reinforcing its leadership role in India’s clean energy financing landscape.
REC received the Gold Award under the category “Excellence Award for Financial Institutions in Green Energy and Energy Efficiency”, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to financing renewable energy projects, promoting energy efficiency, and supporting sustainable development initiatives across the country. The award acknowledges REC’s consistent efforts in aligning financial strategy with national climate goals and India’s long-term energy transition roadmap.
The award was received on behalf of REC by Shri Kuldeep Rai, Executive Director (Renewables), and Shri Arun Kumar Chaturvedi, Head of Department (Renewables) during the 14th Green Energy Summit, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in New Delhi. The summit brought together policymakers, industry leaders, financial institutions, and sustainability experts to deliberate on India’s clean energy transition, energy security, and climate action priorities.
This recognition reaffirms REC Limited’s leadership and deep institutional commitment to accelerating India’s transition towards a low-carbon and sustainable energy future. Over the years, REC has emerged as a key financial enabler for green infrastructure development by actively supporting a wide range of initiatives, including large-scale renewable energy projects, transmission infrastructure for renewable integration, distributed energy systems, and energy efficiency programmes.
The award highlights REC’s unwavering dedication to:
- Expanding renewable energy capacity across solar, wind, hydro, and emerging clean technologies
- Supporting energy efficiency initiatives in industrial, commercial, and public infrastructure sectors
- Mainstreaming energy-efficient practices within its own operations and institutional framework
REC’s commitment to sustainability is also reflected in its internal practices and infrastructure. The REC Corporate Office stands as a model of environmental responsibility, having achieved GRIHA 5-Star certification and operating as a Net-Zero Energy Building. This reflects the highest standards of green construction, operational energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and sustainable design, demonstrating that REC not only finances sustainability but practices it institutionally.
Through innovative and strategic financing solutions, REC continues to support projects of national importance, including renewable energy parks, green transmission corridors, smart grid systems, and energy-efficient urban infrastructure. Its role has been particularly significant in enabling the integration of clean energy into the national grid and strengthening India’s power sector resilience.
As India advances towards its long-term development vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, REC remains a cornerstone institution in financing sustainable growth and clean energy transformation. The ICC Green Urja and Energy Efficiency Gold Award stands as a strong endorsement of REC’s vision, performance, and leadership in shaping a greener, cleaner, and more energy-secure future for the nation, while also contributing meaningfully to global sustainability and climate goals.
