On May 25, 2023, Shri Ajay Bhatt, the Raksha Rajya Mantri (Minister of State for Defense), visited the Headquarters of Project Shivalik, a division of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) located in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. During his visit, he was briefed on the ongoing infrastructure projects related to roads of strategic importance, the ongoing Char Dham Yatra (pilgrimage to four holy shrines), and various construction works related to the Bharat Mala project.

Shri Ajay Bhatt expressed his satisfaction with the rapid progress of the infrastructure works being carried out by BRO, especially in challenging terrains and adverse weather conditions in border areas. He congratulated BRO for constructing and black-topping the highest motorable road in the world at Umlingla Pass in Eastern Ladakh, situated at an altitude of 19,300 feet. He commended Project Shivalik for their dedicated work at such high altitudes.

The Raksha Rajya Mantri also praised the remarkable achievement of Project Shivalik in successfully completing the repair and rehabilitation work of the Joshimath-Auli Road. This road facilitates joint training of Strategic Indo-American units and was completed within a short notice period.

Shri Ajay Bhatt appreciated BRO’s initiative in downgrading and scrapping vintage vehicles, making it the first and only government organization to achieve this target. He interacted with the troops and commended them for their high morale and diligent service to the nation. He also acknowledged BRO’s efforts in promoting border tourism.

As part of his visit, Shri Ajay Bhatt paid homage at the Amar Karmyogi Smriti by laying a wreath. He also participated in the “Lifestyle for Environment Campaign” by planting a Palm Sapling to promote environmental awareness.
