Shri Rajesh Kumar IAS (Uttar Pradesh 2008), presently Secretary, Home and Vigilance Department, Uttar Pradesh has been transferred as Divisional Commissioner – Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
Shri Rajesh Kumar, a seasoned officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) of the 2008 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the Divisional Commissioner of Lucknow. He was earlier serving as Secretary, Home and Vigilance Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, bringing with him a wealth of administrative experience across various departments and districts.
An alumnus of the Delhi College of Engineering (now DTU) under the University of Delhi, Shri Rajesh Kumar holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering, where he graduated with First Division, showcasing both his academic brilliance and technical grounding.
Over his illustrious career spanning more than 15 years, Shri Rajesh Kumar has held several significant positions at both field and secretariat levels. His journey in public service began with early responsibilities as Joint Magistrate and Chief Development Officer in Moradabad, where he was known for his on-ground connect and developmental focus.
He has since served as District Magistrate in key districts such as Sant Kabir Nagar, Kannauj, Mathura, and Azamgarh, handling a wide array of responsibilities related to land revenue management, law and order, and developmental administration. His tenures in these districts were marked by administrative firmness and people-centric governance.
In addition to his field roles, he held critical assignments in state-level planning, health, and urban development. As Additional Managing Director of the National Health Mission, he steered health program implementation, and as Mission Director of Industrial Training and Vocational Education, he contributed to strengthening skill development across the state.
Shri Rajesh Kumar also held the dual responsibility of Vice Chairman, Varanasi Development Authority, and Special Secretary, Secondary Education, gaining deep experience in urban infrastructure and education reform. His strategic outlook was further reflected during his stint as Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh, where he coordinated program implementation and inter-departmental policies.
In recent years, he served as Commissioner, Kanpur Division, and Joint Secretary in the Industries Department, where he worked on industrial promotion and policy formulation. His balanced experience of both field administration and policy-level positions equips him with a nuanced perspective of governance.
Now entrusted with the responsibility of Divisional Commissioner, Lucknow, Shri Rajesh Kumar brings with him a proven track record of dynamic leadership, reform-oriented administration, and citizen-focused delivery.
