Rajeev Kumar IFS concurrently accredited as High Commissioner to Solomon Islands
Shri Rajeev Kumar IFS (2001) presently High Commissioner of India to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea , has been concurrently accredited as next High Commissioner of India to the Solomon Islands, with residence in Port Moresby.
Shri Rajeev Kumar, an accomplished officer of the Indian Foreign Service has been concurrently accredited as the next High Commissioner of India to the Solomon Islands, with residence in Port Moresby. This additional responsibility is a testament to his extensive diplomatic experience and the trust reposed in him by the Government of India to further strengthen India’s engagement in the Pacific region.
With a career spanning over two decades, Shri Rajeev Kumar has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing India’s foreign policy objectives across diverse geographies. His current role in Papua New Guinea places him at a strategic vantage point in the Pacific, where India has been steadily enhancing its diplomatic footprint through development partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and multilateral cooperation. His concurrent accreditation to the Solomon Islands is expected to further consolidate India’s outreach and deepen bilateral ties with the island nation.
Prior to his present assignment, Shri Kumar served as Deputy Director General (DDG) at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), where he played a key role in promoting India’s cultural diplomacy and strengthening international cultural exchanges. His diplomatic career also includes significant overseas postings such as Deputy Chief of Mission in Brasilia and Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Rome, where he handled multilateral engagements with prominent United Nations agencies including FAO, WFP, and IFAD.
Academically well-qualified, Shri Rajeev Kumar holds degrees in Economics and Law, providing him with a robust foundation for navigating complex international issues. Since joining the IFS in 2001, he has built a reputation as a diligent and effective diplomat, adept at handling both bilateral and multilateral responsibilities.
India’s relations with Pacific Island countries, including Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, have gained momentum in recent years, with increasing cooperation in areas such as climate change, sustainable development, and capacity building. In this context, Shri Rajeev Kumar’s concurrent accreditation is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing India’s diplomatic presence and fostering closer partnerships in the region.
