Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics and IT, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, will be addressing a Digital India Dialogues session in Bengaluru to discuss the recently revised production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware. The session will be attended by stakeholders from the tech ecosystem, including industry experts, representatives of industry associations, and startups.

The PLI 2.0 scheme for IT hardware was approved by the government last month with a budget of Rs 17,000 crore, more than doubling the budget of the initial scheme introduced in 2021. The scheme aims to promote and incentivize domestic manufacturing of IT hardware by attracting significant investments in the value chain. It is set to be implemented from July 1, 2023, with a cap on the maximum incentives available to participating companies.

Through financial incentives, the government intends to encourage the localization of IT hardware components and sub-assemblies, thereby increasing production within the country. The scheme covers various categories of devices, including laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers, and ultra small form factor devices.

The PLI scheme is projected to result in a total production value of approximately ₹3.35 lakh crore, attract an additional investment of ₹2,430 crore in the electronics manufacturing sector, and generate around 75,000 direct jobs. These consultations and dialogues align with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s approach to inclusive and consultative decision-making processes for law and policy development.
