Smt Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang IAS (1989 ) (Retd.) has been appointed as State Chief Information Commissioner, Meghalaya for a period of 3 (three) years .
Smt. R. V. Suchiang, IAS (Retd.), a distinguished officer of the 1989 batch, has been appointed as the State Chief Information Commissioner of Meghalaya, bringing to the role an illustrious legacy of integrity, leadership, and dedication. With over three decades of rich administrative experience, she retired as the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, the highest-ranking civil servant in the state, capping a career marked by numerous landmark contributions across key departments.
Throughout her service, Smt Rebecca Suchiang held several pivotal positions including Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, and Commissioner & Secretary in departments such as Personnel & General Administration, Finance, Home, Education, Tourism, and Cooperation. Her leadership in administrative reforms and personnel management was instrumental in shaping transparent and responsive governance in Meghalaya. As the state’s first tribal woman Chief Secretary, she not only broke barriers but also inspired a generation of women civil servants through her calm, firm, and inclusive style of governance.
Smt. Suchiang’s deep understanding of governance, honed over years of service in departments ranging from district administration to economic affairs, public distribution, and transport, makes her exceptionally suited for the role of State Chief Information Commissioner. The term of office, salaries, allowances and other terms and conditions of
service will be in accordance with the Right to Information (Term of Office, Salaries, Allowances and Other Terms and Conditions of Service of the Chief Information Commissioner, Information Commissioners in the Central Information Commission, State Chief Information Commissioner and State Information Commissioners in the State Information Commission) Rules, 2019.
