President honours India Smart Cities Award Contest 2022 winners in Indore ceremony

The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, honored the winners of the fourth edition of the India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC) 2022 during a ceremony in Indore. The ISAC, organized under the Smart Cities Mission by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, has been recognizing exceptional urban development initiatives since 2018. Dignitaries present at the event included Shri Mangubhai C. Patel, Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Kaushal Kishore, MoS, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Shri Bhupendra Singh, Urban Development Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

President Murmu commended the increase in India’s investment in urban development over the past decade, emphasizing the Smart Cities Mission’s role in implementing best practices and developing viable business models. She discussed the focus of G-20 on urban development and stressed the importance of collaboration at local and global levels for overall and sustainable development.

The President noted the significance of Integrated Command and Control Centers (ICCCs) in smart cities and emphasized the need to take strong steps to ensure women’s safety. She encouraged Mayors and Municipal Commissioners to use the information shared at the conclave to benefit their respective cities.

Hardeep Puri

Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for planned urbanization and the transformative impact of the Smart Cities Mission on India’s urban ecosystems. He mentioned the Mission’s achievements, including the construction of smart roads, smart classrooms, LED/solar lights, and smart health centers.

Shri Puri commended the city of Indore for its excellence in urban governance and innovation in waste management, carbon credits, digital technology, and public open spaces. He congratulated the 31 cities that received awards for their projects and initiatives.

The conclave provided a platform for smart cities to showcase their work, enabling peer-to-peer learning and the dissemination of best practices. It featured an extensive display of award-winning projects, state and city stalls, project models, and dialogues with award-winning city CEOs.
