The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the 55th foundation day celebrations of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in New Delhi on October 4, 2023.
In her address, President Murmu emphasized the crucial role of Company Secretaries in serving not only as legal professionals for companies but also as trustees for the welfare of every citizen. She urged them to uphold principles of good corporate governance and human dignity in their work.
The President highlighted the importance of ethics in business and the responsibility of Company Secretaries in ensuring that legal provisions for business facilitation are not misused. She stressed that India’s future development and corporate governance depend on the competence and integrity of professionals in the field.
President Murmu commended ICSI for its role in fostering qualified and proficient corporate professionals while emphasizing the need for a culture of good governance, integrity, and discipline in society and boardrooms. She encouraged adaptability to change and commended ICSI for its efforts in updating syllabi and promoting research in response to evolving needs and technological advancements.
