Ms. Preeti Meena, IAS is a distinguished civil servant with a strong academic foundation in medicine and an accomplished administrative career spanning public health, education, urban governance, and district administration. She completed her M.B.B.S. from University of Rajasthan, securing Second position. She pursued her medical studies at both R.N.T. Medical College and R.N.L. Medical College, building a strong grounding in medicine and healthcare systems before joining the Indian Administrative Service.

Currently serving as Director in the Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of India, New Delhi (January 8, 2024 – February 15, 2028), Ms. Meena plays a key role in shaping national policies in school education. Her work involves strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy, improving learning outcomes, and enhancing institutional frameworks across states. Prior to this, she served as Deputy Secretary in the same department from February 2023 to January 2024, contributing to policy formulation and programme implementation at the central level.

Ms. Meena’s career reflects deep engagement in the health sector, where her medical background has significantly complemented her administrative responsibilities. She served as Director in the Drug Control Administration under the Health & Family Welfare Department in Hyderabad from March 2018 to May 2022. In this role, she was responsible for regulating pharmaceuticals and ensuring compliance with drug safety standards. Simultaneously, she held the position of Director in the AIDS Prevention & Control Society under the Health & Family Welfare Department (January 2018 to September 2022), leading initiatives aimed at public awareness, prevention strategies, and strengthening healthcare delivery systems in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Her district-level administrative experience includes serving as District Magistrate (October 2016 to January 2018), where she oversaw land revenue management, law and order, and developmental programmes. Earlier, she worked as Joint Collector in Nalgonda in 2014, handling land revenue and disaster management responsibilities. These assignments provided her with strong grassroots administrative exposure and experience in coordinating multi-departmental functions.

In the urban governance sphere, Ms. Meena served as Additional Commissioner in the Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (February 2014 to August 2014). During this tenure, she contributed to urban infrastructure management and civic administration in one of India’s largest metropolitan bodies.

Her leadership extended to the industries sector as well. From January 2015 to October 2016, she served as Director in the Handloom, Textile & Sericulture Department in Hyderabad, supporting traditional industries and strengthening livelihood opportunities for artisans and weavers.

Ms. Meena began her administrative journey as Sub-Collector in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh (August 2012 to February 2014), where she handled sub-divisional revenue administration and development functions. Following her induction into the IAS in August 2011, she completed her probationary training, laying the foundation for her multifaceted career in public service.

Across her assignments, Ms. Preeti Meena has demonstrated a rare combination of medical expertise and administrative acumen. Her ability to navigate complex public health challenges, urban governance issues, district administration responsibilities, and national education policy underscores her versatility and commitment to public welfare.

Her career progression—from a medical professional to a senior policymaker in school education—highlights the evolving and interdisciplinary nature of the Indian Bureaucracy. With extensive experience across health, education, urban development, and district governance, she continues to contribute meaningfully to policy design and effective implementation at both state and central levels.
