Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Hyderabad Metro Rail . Official sources said, he will launch the first phase of the 30 km-long metro network. During its inaugural run, Mr Modi and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will travel by the metro from Miyapur to Kukatpally. AIR correspondent reports that the stretch will be thrown open for commercial operations from tomorrow.

Telangana Government has made elaborate arrangements to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he arrives at the Begumpet Airport this afternoon. Mr Modi will unveil a pylon at Miyapur metro railway station on the outskirts of Hyderabad to mark the formal inauguration of the first phase of the Hyderabad Metro from Miyapur to Nagole, a stretch of 30 kilometres with 24 metro stations.

This stretch will be thrown open for commercial operations from tomorrow. After unveiling the pylon, Mr Modi travels by metro train up to Kukatpalli metro station and return to Miyapur. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Governor ESL Narasimhan will accompany the Prime Minister in the metro ride.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail Project will cover a total distance of 72 kilometres across three corridors. Its second and final phase is expected to be completed by the end of next year. It is integrated with existing railway stations, suburban railway network- MMTS and bus stations to ensure seamless and comfortable travel.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail Corporation stated that every ten minutes one metro train will be operated and the duration of the time will come down to three minutes in the coming months. The trains would run from 6 am to 10 pm initially and the timings would be rescheduled depending on the traffic and demand.

It is expected to carry 17 lakh passengers every day in the coming months and the number is likely to touch 23 lakh with the completion of the second phase metro next year.

The authorities are assuring that metro ride is not just travelling from one to another, but provides the public with a holistic experience with creation of entertainment, shopping and utility zones at metro stations.

The state government asserted that the metro rail with its state-of-the-art features is expected to trigger economic activity in the fast developing city of Hyderabad.The metro project which was conceived way back in 2007 was actually grounded in 2010. Foundation stone was laid to the project works in December 2012.

Hyderabad is joining the league of Delhi, Mumbai and five other cities which boast of the metro rail network in the country today. The project has many special features and firsts to its credit. It is considered to be the world’s biggest project in the public-private partnership mode in the metro sector.

It has the state-of-the-art communication and signalling system where every two minutes one train can be operated. The first phase which the Prime Minister is flagging off today sets a record with the longest inaugural of a stretch of 30 kilometres in one go. No other metro project boasts of connectivity from one end to other ends of the city in the inaugural launch.

It is equipped with driverless technology where the necessity of driver to run the train can be obviated if required. Ameerpet metro station, the interchange station, having a space of twenty lakh square feet is the biggest metro station in the country now.
