ONGC Para Games Reaffirms Commitment as Equal Opportunity Employer

The First edition of the 3-day ONGC Para Games, a unique HR initiative for the specially abled employees has evoked huge enthusiasm among the 120 participants, out of which 20 were lady sports enthusiasts. In spite of being physically challenged, the participants had shown their mettle and fighting attitude to take part in various sports.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. D.D. Misra, Director-HR, ONGC said, “The philosophy behind conducting the ONGC Para Games is to provide similar sporting avenues to specially abled employees that the regular employees enjoy”.

Mr. Misra further pointed out that ONGC is an equal opportunity employer and all these initiatives are taken to accomplish this objective. ONGC Para Games, which kick-started on December 19, will be a regular Annual feature. The company is always supporting initiatives that seek to eliminate disparities of all forms against the physically challenged by not only creating opportunities for livelihood but also instilling confidence for growth at par with everyone in the society.

The valedictory function was graced by Mr. George Abraham, the architect behind the concept of Blind Cricket in the country.

Incidentally, ONGC is the first corporate in the country to acknowledge the talents of the differently abled and organize an event of this stature.

A total of 46 events were organized over 3 days which comprised of 5 categories in badminton, 3 categories in table tennis, 4 categories in wheel chair and 34 in athletics including 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 2 km walk, long jump and discus throw.
