valedictory function of the World Environment Day Celebrations organised by the Corporate Environment Cell (CEC) of NLC India Ltd.,  between 4th and 13th June 2019 was held at Learning &  Development Centre Auditorium, Neyveli on 13.06.2019.Shri.R.Vikraman, Director/HR, NLCIL,the Chief Guest of the function insisted on Renewable energy implementation and technological advancements in combating the Air Pollution which is the order of the day. He also stressed  that the pledge taken today should be followed by everyone, everywhere till eternity which will create a huge impact on the quality of Air .

Shri Subrat Mohapatra, Additional Principal Conservator of Forests, Madurai, the Guest of Honour of the function delivered the Special lecture on the theme “Air pollution” and explained the ways to overcome the ill effects of Air pollution through Photosynthetic Biodiversity conservation by encouraging the planting of trees which will produce more oxygen while improving the green cover of our environment.

The “Green Message” from Shri.Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL to combine the effort to promote Eco Friendly technologies and help Mother Earth to respond to the climate change by enhancing the green cover was conveyed to all the delegates.

Shri.N.N.M.Rao, Director/Planning & Projects, NLCIL induced the knowledge on the importance of Energy conservation and the ways to achieve it. He also insisted the use of fuel less driven vehicles to create a sustainable Environment. Shri. Shaji John, Director/Power, NLCIL shared that our country’s commitment towards Paris Agreement through Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) to combat Global warming and Climate change.

Earlier,  Dr. V. Manoharan, CGM/Environment Cell and the Head of the R&D unit of NLCIL,  welcomed the gathering & spoke on the impacts of Air pollution on human beings &  the importance of  preservation of the Air quality. The Eco- Pledge was administered by the Directors in trilingual and the oath was taken by all the participants to protect the Quality of Air.

NLCIL observed the World Environment Day in a pro-active manner with various activities   like Mass tree plantation, Eco – Pledge observance etc., for the past 10 days in their Industrial units and Township from 4th June  to 13th June 2019. During the above period, around 10000 trees were planted and Eco – Pledge was taken by all the employees & executives of NLCIL to prevent AIR POLLUTION. This observance was carried out in-order to create widespread awareness on the theme “Air Pollution” among the employees & Public.

As a part of appreciating the activities in  Environmental domain  and to motivate the green efforts, NLCIL Green Awards had been accoladed to  various units of NLCIL for their Eco – Care performances during the programme.  CEC also distributed Zodiac trees pamphlets with a endangered tree saplings to the Unit Heads of NLCIL. An Eco e-Souvenir on the Environmental activities of NLCIL had been released during the event. Around 300 Executives,  Employees and Children were participated in the programme .

The programme was concluded by thanking the Mother Earth & Mother India  by Shri. M.Senthil Kumar, ADGM/CEC, NLCIL and Indoor Air purifier plants were distributed to the participants to plant near by their surroundings as a part of continual Enviro- Improvement.
