The National Institute of Fisheries Post Harvest Technology and Training (NIFPHATT), under the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Government of India, organized a workshop on the “Matsya Sampada Jagrukta Abhiyan” (MSJA) at Kochi. The workshop aimed to disseminate information and knowledge about the achievements in the fisheries sector over the past nine years and highlight the success stories of the Department of Fisheries and its institutions across the country.

The “Matsya Sampada Jagrukta Abhiyan” (MSJA) was launched on September 15, 2023, as an outreach program to connect with fish farmers and 3,477 coastal villages. The key objectives of the workshop were to promote fisheries schemes, showcase various fisheries activities, reach out to fishers and coastal villages, create awareness about the diverse activities in fisheries, and highlight sectoral achievements and success stories.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. A. Gopalakrishnan, Director of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI). He emphasized the importance of effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and how it can modernize and strengthen the fisheries value chain while ensuring the socio-economic welfare of fishers and fish farmers. The event also featured presentations on fisheries development schemes, aquaculture technologies, start-ups, and capacity building.

The workshop served as a platform to disseminate valuable information, best practices, and the latest advancements in fisheries and aquaculture techniques to a broad audience of fish farmers and fisheries stakeholders. It aimed to promote responsible fisheries management, sustainable aquaculture, fish processing, marketing, and the overall well-being of the communities dependent on the fisheries sector.

The event provided a forum for fishermen representatives, fish-farmers, entrepreneurs, cooperative society leaders, professionals, scientists, and other stakeholders to interact and share their success stories in aquaculture, fish processing, and marketing.
