Nidhi Kesarwani IAS extension as Joint Secretary- Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade
Ms. Nidhi Kesarwani IAS (Manipur 2004) presently Joint Secretary- Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has been given extension of central deputation tenure for a period of two years beyond 03.06.2026 by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Ms. Nidhi Kesarwani, an accomplished officer of the Indian Administrative Service, exemplifies a fine blend of academic excellence and administrative competence. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Jabalpur, securing a First Division, and further strengthened her academic credentials with an M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, also with First Division. This strong technical foundation has consistently reflected in her structured and analytical approach to governance.
Her administrative journey began with field-level assignments in Manipur, where she served as Sub-Divisional Officer in Ukhrul and later as Deputy Commissioner in Senapati. These early roles provided her with deep insights into grassroots governance, particularly in areas of land revenue management and district administration.
Ms. Kesarwani’s career further expanded through her tenure as District Magistrate in Uttar Pradesh under inter-cadre deputation, where she handled complex administrative responsibilities over an extended period. Her ability to manage diverse challenges with composure and efficiency earned her recognition as a dependable district administrator.
Returning to Manipur, she served as Commissioner & Secretary in the Public Health Engineering Department, contributing to drinking water and public health infrastructure. She later took charge as Commissioner-cum-Secretary in Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, where she focused on strengthening rural systems and improving developmental outreach.
At the central level, she served as Deputy Director in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, gaining valuable exposure to national-level policy frameworks. Currently, she is serving as Joint Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, New Delhi. In this role, she is engaged in advancing industrial development and policy initiatives.
